Who Made You a Princess?

Meg Mims won 2nd place in Wisconsin Romance Writers of America's Fab Five Contest and 3rd place in ORA's Weta Nichols Contest with her YA story Double Crossing. 2010 Seton Hill In Your Write Mind Conference and Retreat

This June 150 writers gathered "on the Hill" for the combination of Seton Hill University's Writing Popular Fiction MFA Residency and the 9th Annual Alumnae-sponsored WPF In Your Write Mind Conference and Retreat. Guests included New York Times Bestselling Author, Rambo-creator, and International Thriller Writers co-founder David Morrell, FinePrint Literary Agent Janet Reid, Poisoned Pen Press Acquisitions Editor Annette Rogers, Samhain Publishing Co. We also caught up with one of our undergrads, Stephanie Wytovich, who is taking our summer Creative Writing course at SHU on Writing Short Stories. She met two of the authors whose stories we're reading in class: David Morrell's "The Abelard Sanction" and Patrick Picciarelli's "The Prince of Arthur Avenue", which was just made into a movie.

Seton Hill University seeks published novelist of popular fiction (preferably mystery/suspense), to teach and to mentor novel-length theses in the graduate low-residency Writing Popular Fiction program (half-load), and to teach undergraduate courses in creative writing and first-year composition.

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in English, MFA considered. Background in journalism, publishing, and/or editing a plus. Teaching experience/potential at undergraduate level desirable.

#1: Venus on the Half Shell, the Philip Jose Farmer anthology edited by Seton Hill alum Christopher Paul Carey received a starred review from Publishers Weekly. The publisher Subterranean Press expects the book to sell out "by or shortly after publication." You can reserve a copy here.

#2: A special serial story for the holidays is in swing at Home by Christmas. This European historical tale is being told by twelve authors, including Seton Hill alum Laurie Alice Eakes.

#3: Seton Hill alum Mary SanGiovanni's debut novel The Hollower received a good review at Dread Central.

#4: Several Seton Hill writers will be teaching workshops at the Pennwriters 21st Annual Conference, including Timons Esaias, Maria V. Snyder, and Victoria Thompson. The conference is being held at Lancaster Host Resort and Conference Center in Lancaster, PA, from May 16 - 18, 2008. Keynote speaker will be Joyce Carol Oates.

#5: Proverbs for Monsters, the lastest collection by Seton Hill mentor Michael Arnzen, is available now.
